Senior David Drefcinski finish second in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle in Thursdays non-conference victory over Rockford Christian.

The Platteville/Lancaster boys’ swim team honored seniors Ben Bahr, David Drefcinski, Brenden Polkinghorn, Peshoua Xiong, Joey Lindholm, Austin Moss and Phillip Patakos during intermission of Thursday’s non-conference dual meet with a familiar Rockford Christian team.
In the pool, each senior played a role in a decisive 96–74 victory over the visiting Royals. The Hillmen improved to 2–0 on the season with the win.
“We knew this was going to be a fun meet and that the guys would have to bring their A game,” said Platteville/Lancaster coach Matt Wunderlin. “Rockford tied us once and beat us once when we met at invitationals earlier this year. Our athletes brought their A-plus game and we managed a pretty decisive victory over a good team.”
Polkinghorn broke 50 seconds for the first time this year in the 100-yard freestyle, winning the event in 49.83 seconds.
Drefcinski finished second in the 100 free breaking the 1:00 barrier for the first time at 59.75 seconds. Drecinski also placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:14.70).
Bahr won the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.19. He also teamed with Polkinghorn, junior Sam Iselin and sophomore Jack Schaffer to win the 200 medley relay (1:47.58).
Bahr, Polkinghorn, Iselin and junior Spanish exchange student Aurelio Fernandez won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.56.
Lindholm teamed with junior Coleman Lupee, sophomore Vince Momot and freshman Jesus Fontan to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:42.30).
Iselin broke 1:00 for the first time this year, winning the 100 butterfly in 58.96 seconds. Sophomore Kevin Donovan won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:37.22.
“I’m very proud of the senior class,” added Wunderlin. “They have helped me a lot in transitioning to this position and have kept some important traditions alive. They are a professional group of young men, and I’m grateful for the privilege of working with them.”
Platteville/Lancaster returned to action Tuesday with a Southern Lakes conference dual at Lake Geneva Badger. The Hillmen will then travel to Dubuque Hempstead for a non-conference dual on Thursday and will travel to Elkhorn for a Southern Lakes triple dual Tuesday.
Last Tuesday’s Southern Lakes dual at Whitewater was postponed due to last week’s freezing temperatures and will be made up on Jan. 31.
