Hillmen swimmers place fourth at own invite
Moss
Junior Tyler Moss place third in the 100-meter butterfly, seventh in the 200 individual medley and was on the third-place 200 medley relay at Saturdays 33rd annual Hillmen Invitational.

PLATTEVILLE — The Platteville/Lancaster boys swim team scored 273 points to place fourth out of six teams at Saturday’s 33rd annual Hillmen Invitational at UW–Platteville.

Against a field of mostly unfamiliar opponents, the Hillmen swam to a pair third-place medals and clocked nine top-eight finishes.

“It is fun to swim against teams we don’t otherwise see the rest of the season or won’t see again until championship meets,” said Hillmen head coach Matt Wunderlin. “It can become a head game when you race the same people repeatedly in that you kind of know if you can beat them or not. Having group of athletes you don’t otherwise see means that the gloves are off and people are racing without worrying about past performance baggage.”

Junior Tyler Moss placed third in the 100-meter butterfly (1:04.28) and seventh in the 200 individual medley (2:35.67).

Moss teamed with seniors Michael Prestegard, Trent Julius and Connor Feyen to take third in the 200 medley relay (1:52.20). The same quartet placed fifth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:54.50).

Prestegard earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 fly (1:08.30), while younger brother freshman Dylan Prestegard was fifth in the 500 freestyle (6:17.50).

Julius placed seventh in the 50 freestyle in 26.18 seconds.

Dylan Prestegard, Noah Rhoden, Luke Sigwarth and Devyn Shea also placed seventh in the 200 free relay (1:55.41). Quentin Fritz, Sam Schaffer, Water Schwickrath and Ben Wilson finished eighth in the 200 free relay (1:58.20).

“We saw a lot of season best times at the meet Saturday,” said Wunderlin. “This was very encouraging because it was probably the hardest week of practice we’ve done all season.  The guys were a little beat up and tired, but in spite of that there were numerous time drops. Things are coming together nicely as we approach the final few weeks of the season.”

NEXT: The Hillmen (0–5, 0–4 Southern Lakes Conference) traveled to Delavan–Darien Tuesday night for the final conference triple dual of the season. They will then host La Crosse on Thursday, Feb. 1 before traveling to Lake Geneva for the Southern Lakes Conference Championships on Feb. 3.
