Lancaster girls cross country takes second at River Valley

SPRING GREEN – The Lancaster girls cross country team is quickly becoming a team to reckon with.

At last Saturday’s River Valley Invite held in Spring Green, the Lancaster ladies finished second of 15 teams in the small division, and were just four points behind the top team from Albany.

With a team score of 88, the Flying Arrows finished seven points ahead of perennial power Darlington, and were nine points ahead of Boscobel, another strong program in the area.

The top finisher for the Lancaster ladies was freshman Lydia Murphy, who finished the race in a time of 19:54, and was second only to Belleville junior Noelle Maire (19:06).

Following Murphy was fellow freshman Crystalyn Mish, who placed 18th of 103 runners with a time of 21:52.

Rounding out the Lancaster finishers were sophomore Maddie Hampton (21:52) who placed 19th, senior Brianna Hampton (21:55) who placed 21st, senior Nicole Wolf (22:16) who placed 28th, sophomore Megan Volkmann (23:02) who placed 39th and freshman Hannah Cohen (23:30) who placed 45th.

On the boys’ side, the Flying Arrows placed 10th of 18 teams with a score of 266.

Leading the charge was senior Josh Schwantes, who placed 20th of 112 runners with a time of 18:21, while sophomore Hunter Liddell was 29th at 18:52.

Finishing 36th with a time of 19:15 was junior Harrison Stone, while freshman Dawson Bresee placed 83rd (21:26) and senior Dane Mohlmann 98th (22:48).

This past Tuesday evening, the Lancaster cross country teams once again traveled to Spring Green, and will next host Platteville next Tuesday evening.
