VIROQUA – Of 70 competing golfers, Lancaster junior Josh Hentrich took medalist honors at last Saturday’s Viroqua Invite held at the Viroqua Country Club, shooting a five-over-par round of 76.
Hentrich has been the leader of this year’s Lancaster boys golf team all season, and unfortunately for the Flying Arrows, his first-place individual finish wasn’t enough to keep Lancaster from finishing last of 14 competing teams.
The Flying Arrows finished Saturday’s Invite with a team score of 414, which was 85 strokes more than the winning team from River Valley.
While Hentrich finished first with a score of 76, sophomore Dillon Marshall placed tied for 42nd with a 96.
Senior Colton Holmes finished with a 120, earning him 66th place, while freshman Isaac Farrey came in with a 122 and placed 68th. Fellow freshman Morgan Seippel shot a 123, which did not count toward Lancaster’s team score.
Last Tuesday night in the team’s fifth conference meet of the season, the Flying Arrows placed fifth of six teams with a score of 197.
Winning the meet was River Valley, who shot an impressive 158, while Prairie du Chien was last with a 203.
Hentrich led Lancaster wit a five-over-par round of 41, while Marshall shot a 48, Farrey a 52, Colton Holmes a 56 and Seippel a 56.
With five conference meets in the books, Lancaster currently sits in fourth place with 13 points, one point behind Richland Center and one point ahead of Dodgeville.
River Valley holds the top spot with 29 points, while Platteville remains in the hunt with 26.
This past Tuesday night’s SWC meet at the Platteville Country Club has been postposed due to rainy weather, and will be played this Thursday evening.
On the following Friday, the Arrows will be competing at the Reedsburg Invite, then at the Southwest Cup on Saturday, which is being held at the Dodge/Point Country Club this year.
