VIROQUA — The Platteville boys golf team made their inevitable conference title official with a 35-stroke victory over runner-up River Valley at last Wednesday’s Southwest Wisconsin Conference Championships at the Viroqua Hills Golf Course.

Senior Andy Eggers shot a 1-under-par 70 to upstage the four-way battle for SWC Player of the Year honors between teammates Cade Rohrbach, Isaiah Altfillisch and Nate Busch, and Lancaster freshman pheonom Noah Kirsch. Eggers shot an even par 37 on the front 9, then birdied 10, 15 and 16 to shoot a 1-under par 33 on the back nine to win medalist honors. Eggers’ sensational day headlined Platteville’s winning 310 total and helped coach John Sponsler’s Hillmen claim the overall SWC title for a third consecutive season.

Rohrbach shot a 5-over-par 76 to finish second, while Altfillisch carded a 79 to finish third. Rohrbach and Altfillisch finished in a dead-lock tie for first-place in the individual SWC standings with 226.5 points to share 2019 SWC Player of the Year honors. It was Rohrbach’s third-straight SWC Player of the Year award.

Busch shot an 85 to place seventh, while senior Brandon Weigel finished 13th with a non-counting 93. Kirsch shot 81 to finish fourth to lead Lancaster (368) to a third-place finish. Kirsch, Eggers and Busch finished third, fourth and fifth in individual league standings to earn first-team all-conference honors.

The top four teams and the top four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to  Tuesday’s D2 Prairie du Chien Sectional.
