Platteville Ying Xiong brings the ball up field during Platteville/Lancasters 31 victory at Dodgeville last Thursday.

DODGEVILLE — The Platteville/Lancaster boys’ soccer team continues rolling through the Southwest Wisconsin Conference in recent weeks.
Last Thursday the Hillmen defeated host Dodgeville/Mineral Point 3–1 to improve to 5–0 in conference play on the young season.
Lancaster senior co-captain Julian LaBudda scored a pair of goals — with Hans Chavez assisting on both — including a key insurance goal in the second half.
Lancaster senior Clay Vesperman scored a first-half goal in the victory. Senior goalie Devon Briggs made four saves to earn the win in his return to the lineup.
Platteville/Lancaster opened the season with a 5–1 victory over the Dodgers on Aug. 19. The co-op then defeated River Valley 1–0 on Aug. 21, hammered Richland Center 8–0 on Aug. 26 and defeated Prairie du Chien 7–0 on Aug. 28 to complete the first loop through conference play undefeated.
Last Tuesday the Hillmen scored four first-half goals then held off a late rally by visiting Sugar River (Belleville/New Glarus) to score a 4–3 non-conference victory.
Ryan Pink scored twice, and LaBudda and Vesperman each had a goal and an assist in the first-half onslaught.
Sugar River kept the pressure on in the second half as Nehemiah Noriega notched a hat trick in the final 45 minutes, but Plateville sophomore Dillon Shinee made eight saves to preserve the victory.
Shinee improved to 5–2–1 in net on the season as the fill-in goalie while Briggs was out of the lineup.
The win also snapped a 29-match winless streak in non-conference play. It was the co-op’s first non-conference victory since a 1–0 decision over La Crosse Logan on Sept. 17, 2011. The Hillmen had gone 0–24–5 in non-conference matches dating back to 2011.
Platteville/Lancaster (6–2–1) returned to action Tuesday at home against River Valley and will now travel to Richland Center Thursday and then to Port Washington for non-conference matches on Friday and Saturday.
