SPRING GREEN — River Valley continued its year-long domination of the Southwestern Wisconsin Conference Friday at the SWC Gymnastics Championships.
The Blackhawks posted a 133.0 team scored to hold of the Platteville/Belmont/Lancaster tri-op and end P/B/L’s four-year run as SWC champion.
The Hillmen finished second out of five teams with a score of 129.175.
“As a team we place where I had expected,” said Hillmen head coach Jessica Hill. “River Valley had a talented team this year. Throughout the year we have continually improved and gotten closer to their team score. We are a young team and will continue to develop. The team has not only learned new skills but also learned success doesn’t come without hard work. The progress shows our potential to score higher this year and in years to come.”
Platteville freshman Grace Hammermeister finished sixth in the all-around with a number of solid performances. She tied for second place on the vault with senior teammate Danielle Jentz (8.70). Hammermeister also placed third on the floor (8.875), tied for third on the balance beam (8.250).
Sophomore Jenna Phillips, who had to pull out of the vault, placed third on the uneven bars (7.875).
Lancaster sophomore Alyssa Bainbrdige was sixth on the vault (8.50) and finished ninth in the all-around (31.40).
