The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference  (NSIC) announced its All-Academic Teams for the 2014 fall athletic season Dec. 18,  and 46 student-athletes at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, earned recognition.

Among them is senior Hailey Brown of Elroy, a member of the volleyball team. Brown is a graduate of Royall High School.

To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. Furthermore, the athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her/his institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.

All four of Upper Iowa’s fall sports that compete in the NSIC were represented on the release; football and women’s soccer led the way with 14 honorees. Volleyball had 12 players recognized, while cross country had six of their ten total runners honored.

During the 2013-14 athletic season, the Northern Sun recognized a total of 73 UIU student-athletes for their efforts in the classroom.
