After interviewing four candidates over the past two months, the Boscobel School Board hired a new junior/senior high school principal following a closed session meeting Tuesday.

Rodney Lewis will replace Greg Bell, Jr., who resigned in August to take a similar position in Wisconsin Dells. Lewis is currently the middle/high school principal for the River Ridge School District in Patch Grove. Voters in that district will go to the polls Tuesday to decide whether to borrow up to $13 million for the purpose of combining the current district facilities to create one Pre-K-12 campus at the Patch Grove site.

Boscobel School Board President Todd Miller released the following statement at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday following the closed session meeting: “The Board of Education would like to share that a conditional offer of employment was accepted by Rodney Lewis to be the High School / Middle School principal.  Mr. Lewis expects to start with Boscobel Area Schools sometime in the month of November.  Mr. Atkinson will remain in his current position while Mr. Lewis works to become accustomed to our district.  The board will continue to work with administration and staff to develop the best plan that fits our long-term needs, including the role of District Administrator.”

Miller was in a meeting Wednesday morning and unavailable for comment prior to the newspaper’s 10 a.m. deadline. As for Lewis’ “conditional offer,” that was not revealed, although Bell was paid $75,849 last year and Lewis’ contract is expected to be in that neighborhood, although it would be pro-rated for the time missed at the beginning of the school year.

Lewis received his Bachelor of Science degree from UW-Platteville and his Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Winona State University.

Prior to his employment at River Ridge he was Dean of Students for the Riverdale School District and worked for seven years teaching and coaching at MFL/Mar-Mac in McGregor, Iowa.

“I am excited about the opportunity to serve the Boscobel School District and am looking forward to meeting our staff and students and the families of the district,” Lewis said Wednesday.
