DHS theatre named after Havens

PERFORMERS AT Leona Havens retirement party hold up a temporary sign that dedicates the naming of the theater to Havens.

As many as 500 people attended the retirement celebration for Leona Havens on Saturday, May 21. Current and former students performed songs and skits to honor Havens for her many years as Darlington High School’s English, Speech and Drama Teacher. Havens was surprised and excited. Along with the musical tribute to Havens, the Pop Factory Players announced that the theatre would be named the Leona M. Havens Theatre. Kris Buschor, a representative of the Pop Factory Players, stated at the last board meeting that she has earned the naming rights after all the work she has done for the Children’s Theatre and the community, helping with two renovations of the theatre and for being with the school district for 33 years. “She has worked so hard to deserve this,” Buschor stated. The sign being donated by the Pop Factory Players will hopefully be installed next spring.
