Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction
Optimist Essay Contest deadline Feb. 1

The Platteville Optimist Clubs are inviting students to participate in the annual Optimist International Essay Contest for 2016.  

This year’s topic is “Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction.” The contest is open to all area students age 18 as of Oct. 1, 2015.

Optimist Club members will judge the students’ essays based on the theme of “Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction” and determine the winners. There will be three local winners, each receiving a cash prize. Winners’ essays will be sent to the district level to compete for college scholarships of up to $2,500.

“Young students today have so many fresh ideas about the world and their future,” said Noon Club President Christine Storlie. “As Optimists, it is our goal to encourage them and do what we can to bring out the best in all our young citizens.” 

“The Essay Contest gives them a wonderful opportunity to tap into their creativity and pursue scholarships at the same time,” said Morning Club President Ron Weier.

Application forms, the essay, and a copy of the contestant’s birth certificate or passport (to verify age) must be postmarked by Feb. 1and mailed to Platteville Area Optimist Club, P.O. Box 4, Platteville, WI 53818.
