In partnership with local organizations, the UW–Platteville Office of Continuing Education will offer 12 scholarships to area students to attend the upcoming College for Kids and Middle University 2015.
The scholarships were made possible by the of the UW–Platteville Community Fund, Quota Club International, Platteville Optimist Club and Rotary Club. In addition, the Platteville Community Fund aided in purchasing supplies to keep camp costs affordable for all attendees.
“The scholarships will allow 12 children to attend the week-long camp, but the impact of these scholarships will be felt for many years to come,” said Kerie Wedige, community program manager for the UW–Platteville Office of Continuing Education. “College for Kids and Middle University expose children to science, technology, engineering and math through exciting, hands-on projects and courses. Learning in a fun and friendly environment like our camps can spark a lifelong interest in learning and these scholarships help ensure every child who wants to attend is able to.”
More than 150 area children will be able to come to campus and explore future possible careers, learn new skills and boost self-confidence during this four-day camp starting Monday. The programs are focused on children in kindergarten through seventh grade. Kids can choose from a wide array of interest areas including exploring photography, gardening, ancient Egypt, wood working, the power of popcorn, culinary arts, sewing, creative arts, archeology, what it was like to live as a pioneer, gardening, chemistry and more.
