The Platteville School Board approved several personnel changes taking place during this school year Monday night.

The School Board approved the hiring of Shullsburg music teacher Kelsey Duss for an elementary music teacher position vacated by Luanne Rogers, who retired early. Duss will begin Jan. 4.

The School Board also approved the hiring of Taylor Hartfield, a special education aide, as special education teacher at Platteville High School. Hartfield replaces Katie Butler, who transferred from PHS to Westview Elementary School because of increased demand for special education services.

Hartfield will need a provisional teacher license, which Platteville Public Schools superintendent Connie Valenza called “not untypical for a special ed teacher position nowadays.”

The School Board also approved two coach hirings. PHS Spanish teacher Jeff Henderson was named softball coach, replacing Jim Lawinger, who was not retained as softball coach after two seasons. UW–Platteville senior Katie Huss was named PHS freshman girls basketball coach.
