Valenza not going to Mount Horeb

Platteville Public Schools superintendent Connie Valenza apparently will not be the next superintendent of the Mount Horeb school district.

Valenza said at Monday’s School Board meeting she would “not be leaving Platteville,” one week after she was announced as one of four finalists for the Mount Horeb position.

Valenza said she applied for the position to be closer to her three grandchildren. She also said “I will always be a pulled a little bit to my forever home,” where her son, David, is buried. He died in December 2010, one day after Valenza accepted the Platteville position.

“I love my position in Platteville,” she said. “I love Platteville schools. I’m very loyal to Platteville schools.”

The other three finalists for the Mount Horeb position include two candidates with Southwest Wisconsin ties — Mineral Point Unified School District superintendent Luke Francois and former Boscobel Middle/High School principal Steve Salerno. As of Tuesday the Mount Horeb school district’s website had not announced its new superintendent.
