A 19-year-old Potosi man has died from injuries he suffered from falling from his own vehicle in the early hours of this past Friday.

On Feb. 12, Kyle Vosberg arrived at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque after his mother brought him there for serious head injuries. After an initial investigation by the Dubuque Police Department, at about 1:13 a.m. the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received notification the patient had been brought there with serious injuries that were possibly caused by falling from a moving vehicle in the county.

The investigating deputies found that Vosberg, who had graduated Potosi High School this past May, was driving his 2011 Dodge Ram truck on CTH U near Dutch Hollow Rd. Vosberg set the cruise control at about 30 mph and he tried to get out and stand on the running board of the truck. Kyle was standing there, with the door closed, controlling the steering wheel on the truck from outside the door.

Thomas Leibfried, 18, Cole Menne, 17, and Jacob Langkamp, 18, were passengers in the truck.

When Vosberg was about to get back in the truck, he lost his footing and slipped off of the running board.  He fell from the truck, landing on the highway.  Kyle  sustained a serious head injury from the fall.

The three friends brought him back to his house where his mother then transported him to Mercy. He was later flown to University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City where he eventually succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident.

The incident is still under investigation.
