A Cadillac driven by Fayetta Springer, 87, Platteville, and a Ford Escape driven by Alyssa Johnson, 19, West Allis, collided at West Business 151 and Chestnut Street Sunday around 2:15 p.m. Johnson stopped at the Chestnut Street stop sign looking at her GPS for directions to a gas station. She told Grant County sheriff’s deputies she pulled out from the stop sign and didn’t see Springer’s car until it was too late to avoid Springer’s car, which was going west on West Business 151. Both drivers reported soreness from the crash. Johnson was cited for inattentive driving. Platteville police, Platteville firefighters and Southwest Health EMS assisted at the scene.
