Two arrested after overnight incident

Two people were arrested after an incident that brought Platteville police and firefighters and Southwest Health EMS to a North Oak Street apartment early Saturday.

Firefighters were called to 55 N. Oak St. around 1:15 a.m. for a fire alarm. When firefighters entered the building, they found two unconscious people in a second-floor apartment with a candle building.

Both of Southwest Health’s ambulances were called to the scene, but the two people refused care. Officers determined they were physically all right, though they appeared to be intoxicated.

Officers also found “suspected controlled substances” and drug paraphernalia in the room, police said.

Ronnie M. Smith, 50, and Misty D. Hodge, 47, both of Platteville, were arrested on probation violations.

Smith was sentenced to one year in prison and one year extended supervision in June 2013 after he pleaded no contest to battery — domestic abuse as a repeater and battery as a repeater. The sentence was consecutive to his nine months in jail after a two-year probation term was revoked in April 2013 on charges of battery — domestic abuse and possession of marijuana.

Hodge was sentenced to two years probation in January after she pleaded no contest to charges of misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. Terms of Hodge’s probation included a ban on possessing or consuming alcohol or controlled substances.
