ARGYLE — Two men died after their boat capsized near the Pecatonica River dam in Argyle Saturday.

Thomas L. Melland, 46, Monroe, died at UW Hospital in Madison, where he was taken by Med Flight helicopter after he was first taken to St. Clare Hospital in Monroe.

The body of Kevin L. Holverson, 42, rural Browntown, was recovered by Argyle firefighters Monday around 11:40 a.m.

Michael H. Wilson, 46, Brodhead, was taken to St. Clare Hospital after he and Melland were rescued from the river by first responders.

The three were fishing near the dam when the boat was pulled into the spillway because of the fast current from high water. The boat overturned around noon, and all three were ejected into the water, according to a Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Sheriff’s deputies and Argyle firefighters searched for Holverson’s body Saturday and Sunday before the body was found Monday.

Green County and Blanchardville EMS, the Darlington Fire Department, the Southwest Wisconsin Technical Rescue Team and the Dane County Dive Team assisted at the scene over the weekend.

The Sheriff’s Office and state Department of Natural Resources are investigating the incident.
