Woman, 87, dies in crash

TOWN OF SEYMOUR — An 87-year-old Mineral Point woman died and a 38-year-old Durango, Iowa man was injured in a head-on crash on Wisconsin 81 west of Darlington Monday afternoon.

Rosette V. King was driving west on 81 west of Prairie Road around 1:55 p.m. when a car driven by Chad Michael Ernzen going east crossed the center line and hit King’s car head-on, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

King was transported by Belmont EMS to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, where she was pronounced dead from crash injuries.

Ernzen was transported by Belmont EMS to Southwest Health in Platteville, then taken by Med Flight helicopter to UW Hospital in Madison with what the Sheriff’s Office called life-threatening injuries.

Lafayette County deputies were assisted by the Belmont Fire Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol and its Reconstruction Team, and the Lafayette County Highway Department.

The crash is under investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
