Fennimore grad stars on the gridiron and diamond in the same week

Fennimore’s Maguire Fitzgerald returned from a week at the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Game and stuck out 10 and allowed just one earned run in six innings to lead the 184s to a 3–2 victory over Prairie du Chien in the American Legion Class A Prairie du Chien Regional tournament Monday night.

    Fennimore graduate Maguire Fitzgerald was a dual-sport standout last week on the gridiron and and the baseball diamond. He spent the week at UW–Whitewater preparing for the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Small Schools All-Star Game, then recorded three tackles and a drive-ending interception in the South's 21–14 loss. He returned home in time to pitch the Fennimore U19 American Legion baseball team to a 3–2 victory over host Prairie du Chien in the first championship game of the Class A Prairie du Chien regional Monday night.

     Fitzgerald started cornerback for the South defense and finished the game with three tackles and ended a North drive at the South 15-yard-line with an interception early in the second quarter in Saturday's WFCA Small Schools (D4–7) All-Star Game. He then picked up the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and five walks in six innings Monday night. He struck out 10, including three straight in the bottom of the fourth inning after the host Grasshoppers had loaded the bases with no outs. 

     The Fennimore 184s ended the season with an 8–3 loss to Prairie du Chien in the winner-take-all championship game later Monday night and finished the summer season 6–8. Fitzgerald was not with the team Friday or Saturday as he was in Oshkosh for the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Game.

Will Ahnen, OF/P, Fennimore American Legion baseball 
    Ahnen hit .333 (6-for-18) with four doubles, one homer and a team-high eight RBI in five games last weekend to help the Fennimore American Legion Post #184 reach the championship of the Class A Prairie du Chien Regional Tournament. Ahnen also struck out five and tossed a 64-pitch, one-hit shutout in a 10–0 elimination game victory over Stoddard Sunday night.

Shane Liegel, LB, River Valley football 
    Liegel recorded a team-high seven tackles to lead the South defense in Saturday's Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Small Schools (Division 4–7) Game Saturday at UW–Oshkosh's Titan Stadium.
