The 2013 Scenic Bluffs Conference football season is officially over.
SBC co-champions New Lisbon and Brookwood both bowed out of the WIAA playoffs this past weekend.
Sophomore back leads Pittsville past New Lisbon
Sophomore running back Alec Kolar rushed for a game-high 143 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead the Pittsville Panthers to a 39–20 WIAA Division 7 Level 3 victory over the visiting New Lisbon Rockets Friday night.
Kolar scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter, then added a 5-yard run in the second-quarter to give Pittsville (9–3) a 20–0 lead at halftime.
Kolar scored from 12 yards out to make it 26–0 early in the third quarter.
He scored again on a 3-yard run early in the fourth quarter and after a 9-yard Johnny Costello run pulled the Rockets (9–3) within 32–14, Kolar returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards to put the final nail in New Lisbon’s coffin.
New Lisbon quarterback Cullen Pedersen rushed for 79 yards on 28 carries. He scored on a 16-yard run in the third quarter to make it 26–6.
Costello finished the game with 69 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 carries.
Pittsville quarterback Brad Wesley completed 5 of 11 passes for 158 yards and a score.
SWAL champ Darlington hammers Brookwood, 47–14
Top-seeded Darlington rushed for 399 yards and six touchdowns behind a monster offensive line en rout to a dominating 47–14 WIAA Division 6 state quarterfinal victory over visiting Brookwood Saturday afternoon.
Jason Singer rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns, while Myles Leahy added 148 yards and a TD to lead the Redbirds (11–1).
Singer scored twice on short runs in the second quarter as Darlington built a 21–5 halftime advantage.
Josh Marten’s 80-yard kickoff return in the opening quarter was the only Falcons’ score in the first half.
Paul Ryan scored on a 10-yard run in the third quarter to pull Brookwood (10–2) within 28–14, but Darlington scored the final 19 points to pull away.
Ryan finished the game with a team-high 79 yards on 10 carries.
Brookwood quarterback Dominic Luxton completed 7 of 16 passes for 64 yards and one interception.
Marten finished the game with 19 total tackles.
