Hillsboro track teams finish middle of the pack at conference mee

CASHTON — The Hillsboro track and field team has made steady progression under first-year head coach Heath Revels.

Last week, Revels’ Tigers put 10 weeks of training on display at the Scenic Bluffs Conference meet last Tuesday at Cashton.

The Hillsboro boys scored 58 points and finished fourth out of eight teams, meanwhile the Lady Tigers scored 55 points to finish fifth. Bangor edged Royall 168–157.5 for the boys’ team title.

On the girls’ side, Brookwood scored 171 points to dominate the competition. Cashton finished a distant second with 136.

Sophomore Dakota Wells (11:20.09) and junior Zach O’Hair (11:22.51) finished second and third in the boys’ 3,200 meters to lead the Tigers. O’Hair also finished third in the 1,600 (5:01.19) and ran the anchor leg on the second-place 4x800 relay.

O’Hair teamed with seniors Skyler Fisher and Adrian Marquez and freshman Dawson Cordner to win the silver medal in the 4x800 with a time of 9:17.50. Fisher turned in a pair of fifth-place performances in the 800 (2:17.96) and the triple jump (33’11½”).

In the girls’ competition, Hillsboro’s 4x800 relay team of seniors Destiny Shore, Breanna Beaver and April Thornsen, and freshman Paige Stull finished second at 11:21.92 to lead the way. Thornsen and Shore also teamed with freshman Jaline Attignol and junior Belinda Griffin to finish third in the 4x400 relay (4:49.53).

Senior Morgan Huntley placed fourth in both the shot put (31’0½”) and the discus (95’8”). Classmate Zea Woods finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.57), as well as sixth in the long jump and triple jump, and seventh in the high jump.

The Tigers traveled to Onalaska Monday to participate in the WIAA Division 3 Onalaska Luther regional.

The Hillsboro boys fifth out of 10 teams with 42 points and qualified five events for Thursday’s D3 Bangor sectional, while the Lady Tigers finished sixth with 58 points and qualified five events for sectionals.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to Thursday’s sectional meet. The top four finishers at sectionals will advance to next week’s WIAA state championship.
