NC-Seneca wrestlers fare well in conference meet

Despite technical difficulties throughout the conference tournament, the North Crawford-Seneca wrestlers wrestled well last Saturday.

Noah Brown and Jared Grimsled each placed third, while Tyler Finnell and Kaleb Davenport each placed fourth. North crawford-Seneca’s Corey Spencer and Tullan Baird also received a win.

Jared Grimsled (220) pinned Dylan Thew of Hillsboro in 1:19 before losing a tough wrestled match to Nick Gilbertson by a score of 9-4. Jared then finished the day strong with a pin over Derek Osmond of Brookwood in 2:45.

Noah Brown (285) pinned Landon Robertson of Royall in 5:36. Noah then wrestled Cole Johnson of DeSoto, the tournament champion, and lost.  Noah then defeated Mike Powers of Blackhawk by scoring a takedown in overtime and winning the match 5-3.

Tyler Finnell (106) received a bye in the first round before he wrestled Jestin Hemmersbach of Cashton in the quarterfinals. Tyler caught Hemmersbach in a head throw and pinned him in the 3:25. Tyler then lost to Sam DeWitt of Brookwood and to Caleb Novak of Blackhawk.

Kaleb Davenport (160) scored a tech fall over Bryce Kies of Necedah by a score of 16-0. Kaleb then wrestled Spencer Treu of Hillsboro and lost 12-0. Treu was the tournament champion. Kaleb then lost a close match to Mason McCauley of Weston-Ithaca by a score of 5-3.

The next event for the North Crawford-Seneca wrestlers is the WIAA Regional Tournament at Boscobel High School on Saturday, Feb. 9. Only the top two wrestlers of each weight class will continue to the WIAA Sectional Tournament at the Mineral Point High School on Saturday, Feb. 16.
