VIROQUA — Seniors Noah Mayberry and Logan Rohn each turned in top five finishes to lead the Hillsboro boys to a fifth place team finish at last Thursday’s Viroqua Invitational.

Mayberry finished third overall in a time of 18:16, while Rohn placed fifth at 18:26.

The Tigers scored 151 team points to finish fifth out of 12 teams.
Freshman Zach O’Hair (41st), senior Charles Strait (47th), and sophomores Skyler Fisher (72nd) and Ben Mayberry (79th), and junior Avery Rueckheim (82nd) rounded out Hillsboro varsity lineup.

Necedah’s Trey Horbinski (17:50) held off Westby’s Austin Pasch (18:06) to win the boys’ individual title.

Division 1 La Crosse Central dominated the field easily outpointing runner-up West Salem 47–74 to win the boys’ team title.

“I was very proud of Ben Mayberry making varsity for the first time,” said Hillsboro head coach Ben Leis. “His hard work over the summer is showing.”

On the girls’ side, junior Adriana Reese led the Hillsboro pack with a 19th place (19:16) finish. Sophomore Breanna Beaver finished 27th at 19:40.

Michaela Bach (36th), Destiny Shore (57th) and Macey Brown (67th) filled the rest of Hillsboro’s shorthanded lineup.
The Lady Tigers placed seventh out of nine complete teams.

Led by individual winner Sarah Brekke (16:52.97), the La Crosse Central girls made it a team sweep outscoring distant runner-up, Viroqua 27–90. Central had three of the top five finishers.

“As a team, both boys and girls have a lot to improve on, but I like the way we are headed,” added Leis. “I’m looking forward to giving the kids some easy days before our meets this week.”

Hillsboro traveled to Westby on Tuesday and will return to action Saturday at the River Valley Invitational.
