BANGOR — The Hillsboro volleyball team move into a first-place tie with Royall in the Scenic Bluffs Conference standings with back-to-back league victories last week.

The Tigers (16–9, 8–1 SBC) swept host Bangor 25–18, 25–12, 25–21 last Tuesday, then swept visiting Necedah 25–12, 25–10, 25–17 on Thursday to improve to 8–1 in league play.

Those wins, coupled with Royall’s (19–4, 8–1) loss to Cashton on Thursday, Sept. 24 forced the tie at the top of the conference.

Hillsboro has not lost in SBC play since a season-opening setback at Royall on Sept. 10.

The Tigers and Panthers played the rematch Tuesday at a SBC quadrangular at Wonewoc–Center Tuesday night. Results will be in next week’s Sentry Enterprise.

Saturday, the Tigers went 3–2 and finished fifth out of nine teams at the Reedsburg Invitational.

Hillsboro opened the day with a sweep victory over Adams–Friendship 25–13, 25–6, before a 2–1 loss to Fort Atkinson, 16–25, 25–13, 14–16.

The Tigers then swept La Farge, 25–12, 25–18, and won a three-set battle with the host Beavers, 21–25, 27–25, 15–13.

The day ended with a 2–0 loss to Oregon, 24–26, 18–25.

“Overall, it was a pretty good day,” said Hillsboro head coach Mark Sullivan. “We had some key mistakes at end of couple sets which cost us to move further in the tournament, but played well against some bigger schools.  Managing injuries was difficult on a day when we played five matches.”

Senior Mackenzie Sullivan led the Tigers with 47 kills, 52 digs, 26 assists and 13 aces on Saturday.

Tasha Mitchell finished with 16 kills and a team-high 10 blocks.

Brittany Borchardt led the team with 71 digs. Alexis Mathis added 49 assists and 21 digs.

Hillsboro will return to action tonight at New Lisbon. The Tigers will then host Cashton on Tuesday before closing out the regular season next Thursday at home against Bangor.
