Weston-Wonewoc Center defeats North Crawford 54-22

NORTH CRAWFORD - It was another wild game, when North Crawford traveled to Weston-Wonewoc-Center on Friday, April 16.

When it was over, the Silver Wolves had defeated the Trojans 54-22–thanks in large part to their 34-point explosion in the second quarter.

North Crawford scored first on 54-yard touchdown run by Stephen Munson just one minute into the first quarter. They missed their two-point conversion, but led 6-0.

Three minutes later, the Silver Wolves scored on three-yard run and made their two-point conversion to take an 8-6 lead.

North Crawford responded almost immediately with 47-yard touchdown pass from Keegan Bender to Stephen Munson. The Trojans converted for two points, when Bender threw a pass to Alex Morga. The score was 14-8

Wonewoc-Center responded and scored on an 11-yard pass from Hunter Schmitt to Kaden Sprotte. When the two-point conversion failed, the score was 14-14 and that’s the way the first quarter ended.

This looked a lot like the first meeting of these teams at North Crawford, which featured 10 lead changes, and led to 54-52 Silver Eagles victory in the final minutes of the game.

However, that’s now how this one would turn out.

The Silver Wolves went on a tear in the second quarter scoring 34 unanswered points.

Weston-Wonewoc-Center quarterback Hunter Schmitt passed for four touchdowns to receiver Kaden Sprotte and he ran 15 yards for another touchdown.

The Silver Wolves went into halftime leading the Trojans 48-14.

In the third quarter, Schmitt ran for a touchdown to make the score 54-14.

Then, the final score of the game came on a 30-yard touchdown run for Stephen Munson. Satchel McClurg ran in the two-point conversion and the score was Silver Eagles 54 Trojans 22.

There was no scoring in the fourth quarter.

The most telling statistic of the game was turnovers. North Crawford had six turnovers in the game–three interceptions and three fumbles. Weston-Wonewoc-Center had no turnovers in the game.

The Trojans had 267 yards of total offense, while the Silver Eagles had 417 yards of total offense.

Passing, the Trojans were 3-7 with 3 interceptions for 69 total yards and one touchdown The Silver Eagles were 7-24 for 116 yards, including five touchdowns.

Munson ran for 158 yards on 18 attempts to lead all rushers.

Schmitt gained 112 yards on 11 attempts.

North Crawford’s Gavin Jacobus gained 27 yards on three carries and Kadyn Krambeer gained 24 yards on eight carries.

Munson also caught three passes for 69 yards.

North Crawford was led in tackling by Connor Gannon and Jace Roys with eight tackles each. Gannon had five solo tackles and Roys had three solo tackles.

 Ben Benson had six tackles with three solo tackles and Satchel McClurg had 5.5 tackles with four solo tackles.

North Crawford will host Wisconsin Heights on Friday, April 23.
