Argyle pounds Black Hawk in Six Rivers East affair

WIOTA – Argyle’s trio of Gavin Johnson, Jake Ploessl and Miken Godfrey combined to go 9-for-11 at the plate with nine runs batted in and seven runs scored as the visiting Orioles pounded their way to a 17-5 Six Rivers East victory over the Black Hawk Warriors in a prep baseball game played at Wiota Park on Monday, April 15.

All nine starters for Argyle (3-4 overall, 1-3 Six Rivers) scored at least one run in the game, while seven of them also had a hit and drove in a run in the win. 

Johnson finished 4-for-4 with a triple, four runs batted in and two runs scored to lead to the way. Ploessl went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three runs and two RBI and Godfrey went 2-for-4 three RBI and two runs. BJ Penniston was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run, and Mason Waage drove in two runs and scored twice for the Orioles.

Clinging to a 5-4 lead heading into the fourth inning, the Orioles erupted for seven runs in the top of the fourth frame to open up a 12-4 advantage. Ploessl ripped a pair of doubles, scored a run and drove in two in the inning, while Johnson had a RBI-triple and a run for the guests.

The Warriors (0-5, 0-2) got a run back into the bottom of the fourth, but Argyle plated two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to pull away for a 10-run rule decision.

Junior Cayden Milz had one of the Warriors’ four hits and he recorded a RBI and scored a run in the game. Senior Brandon Schiferl added a run and a RBI, while Jexen Stietz had a hit and a RBI for Black Hawk.

  The Warriors’ Six Rivers crossover doubleheader at Potosi/Cassville on Friday, April 12, was called off due to the weather. No make-up date was available at press time.

Next up, Black Hawk is scheduled to host Barneveld in a SRE game on Tuesday, April 23, starting at 5 p.m.
