BOSCOBEL — Keegan Kamps took hold of the offensive reins and rode the Belmont Braves to a 35–26 non-conference girls’ basketball victory over the Boscobel Bulldogs on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Kamps threw in a game-high 21 points to lead the Braves (3–2 overall) as she nearly single-handedly outscored the host Bulldogs (4–2) on the night.
The Lady Braves’ defense shined as well for Coach Kaleen McGettigan, holding Boscobel to just 13 points through the first three quarters of play en route to a 27–13 lead.
Belmont held a 14–7 lead in a low-scoring first half, and then used a 13–6 third-quarter scoring run to build up a 14-point lead.
The Bulldogs scored as many points in the final eight minutes of play (13) as they did in the first 24 minutes, but the Braves answered back with enough offense in the fourth quarter — eight points — to ease to the win.
Belmont’s Six Rivers West home game against Potosi was postponed due to icy conditions on Thursday. No make-up date was available at press time.
The Braves have four upcoming non-conference games on their schedule. They host Albany on Friday and they have away games at Southwestern on Monday, at Juda on Friday, Jan. 3, and at Mineral Point on Monday, Jan. 6.
