SHULLSBURG — The Potosi volleyball team opened Six Rivers West play with a 25–16, 25–16, 21–25, 25–16 victory at Shullsburg last Tuesday night.

Junior middle hitte Abby Kaiser floored a match-high 25 kills to go along with 11 digs and a team-high four aces.
The Chieftains (2–2–1, 1–1 SRW) dominated the first two set before the host Miners (2–3–1, 1–1) got back in the match taking set three. But Potosi put the match away with a 25–16 fourth set victory.

“It was good for the girls to rebound from last weekend’s tournament play,” said Potosi head coach Ric Walsh. “We came out more focused and energetic. Abby Kaiser was a strong factor on offense with Brooke McKillip helping the cause.”

McKillip, a senior outside hitter, added 11 kills and nine digs. Junior middle hitter Grace Morgan added eight kills.
Junior setter Hannah Udelhoven passed out 25 assists, while senior Kate Nusbaum had 16 assists. Senior Ally Siegert served up four aces. Sophomore Taylar Pluemer led the defense with 12 digs.

“The defensive play and solid passing led to our two setters to have opportunities to give the team good looks,” said Walsh. “Shullsburg stayed focused and kept every rally very challenging. It is a good start to the regular season and gives the girls a boost and direction on areas that need improvement.”

Potosi traveled to Belmont on Tuesday and will now travel to Benton Thursday night before participating in the Lancaster Invitational on Saturday. The Chieftains will travel to Highland on Tuesday.
