Potosi's Kaiser tops 1,000-point mark in loss to Black Hawk
Kaiser 2
Less than two weeks after breaking the single-game school record with 39 points, Potosi junior Abby Kaiser topped the 1,000-point mark for her career with 27 points in Saturday's loss to Black Hawk.

POTOSI — Potosi junior Abby Kaiser keeps on scoring buckets.

A little than two weeks after breaking the school’s single-game scoring record with 39 points in an 82–55 non-conference win over Albany on Jan. 24, the junior scoring machine eclipsed another milestone.

Kaiser surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career with a game-high 27 points in a 90–52 non-conference loss to undefeated and second-ranked Black Hawk (17–0) on Saturday.

Kaiser, who also had a team-high seven rebounds in the game, now has 1,016 points in 66 career games. She is the fifth player in program history to reach 1,000 points and the first to do it in her junior year.

Fellow junior Hannah Udelhoven made a career-high five 3-pointers and finished with a career-best 15 points and four assists, but it wasn’t enough for the shorthanded Chieftains against the talented Warriors.

Hannah Herbst scored a team high 22 points to lead Black Hawk and freshman Hannah Butler added four 3-pointers and 18 points. The Warriors had five players in double figures and connected on 13 of 21 3-point attempts in the game.

Potosi was again without juniors Sophie Langkamp and Toni Pluemer. Langkamp suffered a concussion in last Tuesday’s 55–38 victory at Argyle and has missed the past two games. She was cleared to practice Monday and is expected to return Tuesday when Potosi travels to Belmont.Pluemer suffered a knee injury in a loss at Benton on Jan. 13 and will miss the rest of the season.

Last Tuesday, Kaiser scored a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Chieftains to  their ninth victory of the year at Argyle. Senior Brooke McKillip added 14 points and three assists, and Langkamp chipped in 10 points and 12  rebounds before suffering a concussion late in the game.

Thursday night, Kaiser scored a team-high 16 points and 11 boards, but Six Rivers West-leading Shullsburg was too much for Potosi.

Junior Brianna Leahy had a near triple–double of 20 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks to lead the Miners to a 63–29 victory. McKaliah Strang made 6 of 10 3-point attempts and finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Potosi will travel to River Ridge (12–5, 5–4) Friday night and will then close out the regular season Thursday, Feb. 16 at home against Benton (12–5, 7–2)
