    GREEN BAY – Hattie Rennert opened championship Saturday at the 2017 WIAA State Girls’ Basketball Tournament in Green Bay by winning the third annual 3-Point Challenge on March 11.
    Rennert scored 14 points to open the finals and held on to win the event by a point when Somerset senior Tori Martell’s final shot rattle out of the cylinder.
    Rennert matched a then-record score in the event when she scored 19 points in the opening round to advance to the final four semifinal round, and she followed with a score of 18 to make the finals. Martell set a new round record with 22 in the semifinals to join her in the finals.
    Martell had a score of 13 heading into her final rack of balls, but she went scoreless on the final rack to leave Rennert in front to capture the 3-point title.
    Rennert came into the contest seeded fourth after connecting on 67 of her 140 attempts (48 percent) during the regular season. She owns the school record for 3-pointers in a season (72 in 2016-17) and in her career (133).
