With a 43-40 victory over Fennimore last Tuesday night, River Ridge girls basketball coach Caron Townsend picked up her 400th career victory. In 25 years of coaching, Townsend currently has a career record of 401-163, and is the 24th girls basketball coach in the state to reach the 400-win mark. Prior to this past Monday night's win over North Crawford, Townsend was presented a plaque recognizing the milestone. The plaque was presented by River Ridge athletic director Wade Winkers, and provided by the River Ridge Athletic Boosters.

FENNIMORE – River Ridge girls’ basketball coach Caron Townsend began the 2013-14 season in record-setting fashion, by picking up her 400th career victory at Fennimore last Tuesday evening in the team’s season opener.

In her 25th year as a head coach, Townsend currently has a career record of 401-163, after the team’s home win over North Crawford this past Monday night.

Her Timberwolves are off to a 2-0 start so far, and it looks as if many more wins will come in the future.

Last Tuesday night at Fennimore, the Timberwolves trailed 12-7 after one quarter of play, but then outscored the Golden Eagles, 16-9 in the second quarter to hold a 23-21 lead at the half.

Then in the third quarter, the T-Wolves extended their lead by outscoring Fennimore, 17-8, taking a 40-29 lead into the final quarter.

Things got interesting in the final eight minutes, as the Golden Eagles outscored River Ridge, 11-3, but came up short of the T-Wolves in a 43-40 final.

Senior guard Meagan Herrick led the Timberwolves with 20 points, while sophomore guard Bridgette Myers was close behind with 13.

The two combined to score 33 of their team’s 43 total points.

While Fennimore made 19-of-26 (73%) of their free throw attempts, River Ridge knocked down 11-of-20 (55%).

This past Monday night at Patch Grove, the Timberwolves had little trouble handing North Crawford a 40-16 non-conference loss.

The River Ridge girls held leads of 10-2 and 22-7 at the end of the first and second quarters, then outscored the Trojans 18-9 in the second half.

Herrick and Myers again did most of the damage offensively, as the dynamic duo combined to score 29 of their team’s 40 points.

Herrick led the way with 16 points, while Myers added 13, and Sabrina White came in with five.

Neither team did much damage at the free throw line, River Ridge making 4-of-6 (67%) and North Crawford 1-of-4 (25%).

This Friday night, River Ridge (2-0) will host Lancaster (2-0) in a non-conference contest, then will travel to Cassville (0-2) next Friday night.
