PATCH GROVE – Both Belmont and River Ridge came into Thursday’s Six Rivers West boys’ basketball game looking for their first victory of the season.
Unfortunately for the Braves, they left River Ridge High School still searching for that elusive first win after dropping a tough 55-50 decision to the host Timberwolves on Dec. 15.
The T’Wolves (1-3 overall, 1-1 in SRW) grabbed a 10-point lead at the intermission after outscoring the Braves (0-7, 0-2) by a 20-13 margin in the second stanza.
Coach Jeff Hodgson’s squad came back with a 15-8 run in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 40-37 heading into the final frame, but the ‘Wolves were able convert 10-of-11 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off the Braves for their first victory.
The ‘Wolves finished 11-for-15 at the line on the night, while the Braves shot just 2-for-5 at the line for the game.
Four players scored in double figures for the hosts led by Joel Mezera with a game-high 17 points. Spencer White added 13 points, while Andrew Redman and Alex Breuer followed with 11 points apiece.
Avery Willborn paced the Braves with 14 points and Jeremy Richardson netted 12 for the guests. Brandon Wedig added eight and Justin Nodorft and Lane Friedrich tallied seven apiece for Belmont.
Belmont heads to Argyle for a non-conference game on Thursday, Dec. 22.
