The School Board of Fennimore Community School District continued preparing for the upcoming school year at their recent monthly meeting held on Wednesday, July 22.

During administrative updates, Fennimore Elementary School Principal Hillary Day stated that elementary school pictures will be taken during the school’s open houses held on the evenings of Aug. 25 for 4K, and Aug. 26 for 5K and up.

Photos will be after school begins for junior/high school students.

Fennimore Junior/High School Principal Boone Tollefson said the school was preparing for registration and for fall sports practices to start soon. Tollefson also stated the school would be having, as of now, four foreign exchange students this upcoming school year.

Fennimore School District Administrator Jane Wonderling informed the board that new teacher in-service would be held on Aug. 20 and on Aug. 27, school staff, Southwest Tech staff, and police would be participating in an active shooter response training session.

The board accepted two resignations at their July 22 meeting, Pat O’Brien as building and grounds/custodian effective Aug. 5, and Sandy Bradley as a second grade teacher, while Melanee Budack was hired as a third grade teacher.

Two co-curricular coaches hirings were also approved by the board. Jeremy Pratt was named the new boys varsity wrestling coach and Tyler Matthews, a high school social studies teacher with the district, was approved as an assistant speech/drama coach.

Additionally a number volunteers/volunteer coaches were approved for the football, cross country, and FFA programs.

Other approvals made by the board were the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s student academic standards for the 2026-27 school year, and updated language to the district’s Fund 46 capitol improvement trust fund.

Lastly, the board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Boscobel School District regarding emergency evacuations.

Wonderling explained that the agreement between the districts would be in the case of either district were unable to use or get their school buses, example being if a gas leak were to occur, the other district would assist in busing students.

Wonderling stated the districts would be holding joint training sessions, one in Fennimore and one in Boscobel.

The next meeting of the School Board of the Fennimore Community School District is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m., in the cafeteria of Fennimore Elementary School.
