City of Platteville property taxpayers will pay $23.14 per $1,000 assessed valuation on property in the city, up from $23 per $1,000 last year.
According to a City of Platteville news release, the Platteville Public Schools tax levy increased 2.65 percent, the Southwest Wisconsin Technical College levy increased 0.83 percent, the City of Platteville levy increased 0.8 percent, and the Grant County levy decreased 1.09 percent.
Homeowners’ bills includes the state School Tax Levy Credit of $70.59, up from $69.76 last year, and the Lottery Credit for those who use their homes as their primary residence of $114.02, down from $118.05 last year.
The owner of a $150,000 house in the city will pay $24.75 more than last year, including credits, plus $60 per year for houses and $120 per year for duplexes for garbage collection.
The first half of property taxes, plus special assessments or charges and personal property taxes, are due Jan. 31 at the city treasurer’s office in the Municipal Building. Checks can be made payable to the City of Platteville and can be dropped off in the collection box outside the Municipal Building or mailed to the City of Platteville Treasurer’s Office, P.O. Box 780, Platteville, WI 53818-0780. The second half of property taxes is due at the Grant County Treasurer’s office July 31.
The city treasurer’s office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until Jan. 31, except for Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The office will close Dec. 24 at noon.
