EMS Committee finding success in hiring

DARLINGTON – The Emergency Medical Services of Lafayette County committee meeting was called to order by chair Bob Boyle on June 11 – 7:00 a.m. at the County Board Room.

Shawn Phillips, EMS Service Director updated the committee on the progress on the hiring process was going.

Phillips said, “We received thirteen applicants, eight were paramedics and five were advanced EMT’s. We interviewed all thirteen of the candidates and had some really great applicants. We have made contingent offers on the top three applicants in each position (3 paramedics, 3 AEMT) as of this morning we have three accepted offers, including two paramedics and one AEMT. Start date will be June 28.”

Boyle added, “I was involved with the interviewing and was impressed with the quality of the candidates.”

The Republican Journal reached out to Phillips and received an update regarding the six offers made - five of six have accepted their offer, as of Monday, June 14.

In other business:

• Ordered items that are needed regarding station remodel. The remodel is planned to be complete by July 1 and the projected cost is $10,500. An updated motion was made and approved.

•Approved a contract with Rural Medical for a purchase agreement. The process that this will go through: after this EMS committee, it goes to Finance Committee on June 14; then to County Board on June 15; then to Rural Medical Board to be approved on June16 and final closing – will be June 30.

•No action regarding Darlington Area EMS, Inc, assests.
