Woman killed in 61 crash

SOUTH LANCASTER — A 25-year-old Lancaster woman was killed and her passenger was injured in a crash on U.S. 61 north of Potosi early Saturday.

Kaila M. Fouks was killed when her car went off 61 near Airport Road near Airport Road Saturday around 12:15 a.m.

Jeremy Fishnick, 29, Lancaster, was taken by Med Flight helicopter to UW Hospital in Madison as a precautionary measure, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Fouks drove off 61 after swerving to avoid a deer, and her car went up an embankment, struck a utility pole and overturned. 

Both Fouks and Fishnick were partially ejected from the car. Neither was wearing a seat belt, the Sheriff’s Office said. Fouks was pronounced dead at the scene. Fishnick received minor injuries.

Lancaster Fire and EMS, Lancaster and Hudson police, the Grant County Coroner and Scenic Rivers Energy assisted at the scene.
